ICT as situating tool

ICT as Situating tool

From the classroom discussion we had, situating tool presents simulation of learning situation. It can create 3-D images on display to give the user the feeling that they actually are in real life. It helps students become more effective when it is associated by using technologies as it will make the classroom atmosphere more conducive to learn.

Since it helps to situate learners in an environment where they may experience the learning context or environment or happenings thereby I came to understand that this tool is authentic and very interactive in nature where the students feels that they are situated in a real environment in their learning. With this application, students are able to conceptualize their thoughts to the real world by applying the theories into practice. This application can also make a student independent learner in their life.

The computer presents simulations of real learning situation and makes the learner take decisions. We can locate our home in Google maps and any other places we want to explore which gives real feeling like we have really reached to that place.  Simulations are mostly used while teaching science. The situating tool illustrates that students are actively involved in addressing real-world problems. Example:  measuring PH scale of various items like coffee, milk, juice, blood and so on. As the practiced implies, the students are ‘situated' in the learning experience and knowledge acquisition becomes part of the learning activity, its context, and culture which it is developed and used.

Therefore I felt that situating tool will be very effective in many ways as it helps to comprehend and manipulate variables and foster creativity and visualization skills. Not only this, it provides opportunities to interact with real-life situations without danger, expenses or difficulty and it also involve learner’s conceptual understanding and high order thinking skills.

Co constructive tool

Co-constructive tool
After learning the tool, I have realized that two head is always better than one head. No matter how creative or knowledgeable the person is, it is always great to collaboratively consolidate ideas by sharing with other person. Especially in a pandemic situation like this where every students are studying online, the co constructive tool is very efficient. Example, currently we are using goggle doc to do our group assignments which really helps to work collaboratively.
We get to co edit, make comments and also able to communicate text and graphics. Through this it helps to manipulate information, visualizing ones idea and building new knowledge from one another.

Examples of co-constructive tools
Ø  Google Docs is a free, web-based application that lets you create, share and manage documents, or docs. If you have ever used a productivity suite like Microsoft office, some things about Google Docs might seem familiar. This service also includes Google sheets and Google slides, a spreadsheet and presentation program respectively.

Steps to create Google doc:

  • Go to https://docs.google.com in a web browser
  •  Sign in with your Google account.
  •  Click blank + to create a blank document.
  • Click united document to rename the file.
  • Edit your document
  •  Click the blue share button near the top-right corner of the page.
  • Enter the email addresses of the people you want to share with.

  Ø  Electronic whiteboard
An electronic whiteboard is a software program that runs
on the computer and resembles a whiteboard. It transmits any
information written it to a computer or multiple computers.
They also allow live interaction with digital objects on the screen.

Blogs is an online journal or informational website displaying information
in the reverse chronological order, with the latest posts appearing first.
It is a platform where a writer or even a group of writers share their
                views on an individual subject.
How to Start a Blog in 6 Steps

1
  •            Pick a blog name. Choose something descriptive.
  •          Get your blog online. Register your blog and get hosting.
  •        Customize your blog. Choose a free template and tweak it.
  •         Write & publish your first post. The fun part!
  •          Promote your blog. Get more people to read your blog.

ICT as constructive tool

Constructive tool

We say that 21st century is a digital world where everyone can get access and view the world through using technologies. You can read information about world and also write about world with the help of technology you are using with. We had a session on ICT as constructive tool, learned how we can use and teach our students. Constructivism is basically an approach to learning whereby leaner’s constructed or make their own knowledge based on understanding.

Traditional teaching was now replaced by ICT integration and by doing so we are catering to the diverse needs of students. Unlike in past teacher is only main source of information but now children are able to construct their own understanding through use of computers and became more expert on contents.  We consider that child’s learning is just same as what teacher had taught to them but when we look at the diversity leaning strategies learning is more effective when  a student is actively engaged and open space for their learning by fostering critical thinking, and become independent leaner’s with use of technologies.
We have also looked at applications that help learner to manipulate information, visualize one’s understanding and construct one’s own knowledge.
Example:
concept map, desktop publishing
word, spread sheet                                                                      spreadsheet
Still Going Strong: A Short History of PowerPoint - Eventbrite

Above all these applications I came to know that it helps learners to learn in absence of teacher as well as they are able to do research on their studies by using wide range of resources on the net.
Out of many constructive tools we have worked on simulations whereby we individually designed one page simulated advertisement to attract visitor using PowerPoint presentation program. to know more on how to create simulation you can go this link below.

Communicative tools in ICT teaching and learning

Communicative tools
From the discussion we had on communicative tools, I already had knowledge about communicative tools that are digital infrastructure which enables easy communication between the teachers and the students but I never had an idea that I am using these tools such as we chat and face book beyond the classroom every day.

In our daily living such innovation is playing a vital role in learning and teaching and also helps our task easier in compare to the usual, yet without this we cannot also do some specific task. The best example could be the present situation. Currently every one of us are learning through social media (video conferencing, vle, we chat and face book
)
I thought that whatever we are using the tools are communicative tools but they are broadly categories into two: Synchronous and asynchronous. Those who need real time communication like video conferencing and phone calls are known as synchronous whereas those people not requiring to communicate in same time is known as asynchronous.

So the one I am using is blog. I heard of people using blog before but I have never created one. From the discussion on vle a
As I have been using all these tools over many years I face difficulties as stated in the PowerPoint slide. Out of many factors the most common is slow connection distracts and lose focus on discussion (synchronous) and fail to check and post the discussion regularly (asynchronous).

ICT as an informative tools

ICT as an informative tools
When I compare the degree of learning between use of ICT and use of textbooks, I have experienced that learning through ICT has greater impact. Information is far more advanced and also we can go beyond four walls (exploring beyond the classroom learning). But when I say learning with use of computer I am curious that how we will know if the information on net is all correct because I often take all information as correct but it hampered in my learning at times.

Through the discussion of informative tool on vle, I came to know that using the ICT as an informative tool has an opportunity to gain knowledge as it provides vast space to restore the information. Moreover it helps during the leaner’s activity. it also helps students to get immediate information which is basically reinforcing fastness and better understanding of the content.

I came to understand that informative tools spark light in clearing and validating the on formation by analyzing, synthesizing and manipulating. Beside which students also get a chance to create or construct their own knowledge and meaning.

After learning advantages of using ICT as an informative tool it helps me to understand that whatever we search on net we learn to look for relevant ideas and analyze the information. And it also makes leaner’s to compare information written by different authors on same topics and look for most appropriate information whereby it enhances critical thinking.
